A virtual Celebration
of Color, consisting of 130 carefully chosen and
meticulously reproduced images that amount to an interdisciplinary
look at an endlessly fascinating subject. The presentation is
divided into eight sections:
WHAT IS
COLOR? Begins with an examination of the physics of color
and covers light distribution, qualities of color, a
scientifically modified color wheel, ways of modifying color of
light, additive color mixing and simultaneous contrast.
COLOR
SYMBOLISM: This section demonstrates how certain colors and
color combinations can evoke powerful emotional reactions. Most
colors have both positive and negative connotations and
associations which affect viewer response
COLOR
SCHEMES: The work of respected fine artists and
photographers is used to demonstrate the effective use of various
color schemes, including monochromatic, primary, secondary,
complimentary and subdued.
REPRODUCING
COLOR: A brief review of the methods and mechanics of
reproduction, beginningwith LeBlon's 1738 experiments with three
color mezzotints and concluding with the contemporary graphic
designer's use of quadtones to make interesting color statements
using only black and white photographs.
COLOR
IN ADVERTISING: How do cigarette advertisers use color as
an effective tool of persuasion? Why do scotch and bourbon makers
gravitate to different color schemes than distillers of vodka and
gin? And what about rum and Kaluha?
HOW
PAINTERS USE COLOR: Lessons from the Masters - Leonardo,
Gauguin, Monet, Cezanne, Lautrec, Miro, Klee, Kandinsky, Sargent,
Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh, Hofmann, Rothko, Hockney, Diebenkorn,
Disney and Degas.
NATURE
AS ART DIRECTOR: From the Prarie Smoke Flowers of Minnesota
to the far reaches of the Eagle Nebula, breathtaking photography
demonstrates the profundity of Alexander Pope's observation that
"All nature is but art, unknown to thee."
HAVE FUN
WITH COLOR: This finale features seldom seen evocative
images from melting lipsticks and fiber optics, to Nick Knight's
delightfully playfull Doll Series and Howard Schatz's digitally
colored, mind-blowing Body Knots.
This program runs approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. |
